Ministry Updates

Worship Commission/Liturgy Committee – Joe and Fran

·         The last altar server training class for the year was held.  The trainings went extremely well and more will be planned after the new year.  Amy Marciniack is doing a terrific job.

·         The commission is preparing for Advent.

Faith Formation Commission – Carmella

·      Nothing new to report.  The Commission will meet again in January.

Children’s Ministry

·      No report

Youth Ministry – Dianne & Annette

·      The middle school youth assisted the Outreach ministry by making tags for the Giving Tree and sorting food.

·      They will make Advent wreaths and sell them the weekend of November 21st

·      They plan on participating in the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration.

·      The high school youth had a great time at Convention.  The change in their accommodations enabled the leaders to meet more youth leaders and the kids were able to meet a lot more youth.

·      Both youth groups plan to assemble Thanksgiving baskets for Outreach.

RCIA/Adult Ministry – Carmella

·      Sponsors were found for everyone; things are going well.

Hispanic Ministry – Juan and Maria

·      The announcement of the Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration and Mass on December 12th is in the bulletin.  There will be a potluck Fiesta.  Lots of help is needed.  There will be a couple of rehearsals.

Administration – Steve

·      The last SEP training for the year was held. Follow up classes are going well.

·      The Stewardship Commission met yesterday.  They are laying groundwork and will set goals after the new year.

·      The Welcoming evening was postponed until the Parish Leadership Christmas Party on December 16th.

·      The Parish Christmas party will be held on December 19th.  Anticipating that a lot of people will attend.

Outreach Ministry – Marie & Kathy

·      Outreach is very busy and getting busier every day.  As of today, 98 families are registered to receive Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets.  This number includes 314 people, 175 of which are children.  So far we have 121 turkeys and 11 hams.  They are currently taking only children’s names for gifts (2 per child).

·      Contacted 211 and told them we could not take any more families.  But families are still applying because other agencies have already shut down and there is still a great need for help.

Knights of Columbus

·      no report.

·      Dianne added that some middle school boys wanted to start a Squires group.  They need 10-15 boys and sponsors to start.  Fr. Jay cautioned that K of C will not be given another night to meet at the parish because of the increased demand for space.

Father Jay’s Report

·         Habitat for Humanity decision is on hold.  We are waiting to hear from them by the end of the month.  The appraisal is being done.

·         The soil on the parish property is being tested and we are waiting to hear if we can avoid building the detention pond.  We should hear in about a month.

·         The Evangelization workshop will be held on 11/19.  Six or seven people from Holy Cross will attend.

 Evangelization Discussion

Members broke into groups to discuss the following questions, based on Proclaim the Fire, A Parish Guide to Evangelization, by Rev. Martin Pable:

Ø  How are you experiencing evangelization in your area of ministry?

Ø  How have you observed evangelization being expressed in the parish?

Announcements

·         Next meeting:  Christmas Party, Wednesday,  December 16th.

·         Members were encouraged to read Chapter 4 in Proclaim the Fire, A Parish Guide to Evangelization, for the January 27th meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.

Next meeting is on January 27th at 7pm in the Conference Room.

Respectfully Submitted,

Annette Van Dyke
