This August Holy Cross Church will be going before the Archdiocesan Building Commission to present the Master Plan for our new parish site. The Master Plan is an architectural and financial tool used to establish a vision that will guide us into the future as we over many years create our new facilities. The Master Plan establishes where the new church and the old church will be located on the site. It shows where the offices, meeting rooms, parish hall and a future school will be located. It identifies the number of parking stalls that will be needed and shows how we will handle the runoff of water on the site in a way that will not harm the river. The Master Plan is the tool that we use in our discussion with the DOT concerning traffic on Highway 92 and how we will enter and leave our property. At this August meeting we will also be presenting our first phase and asking for the Archdiocese to approve this as our first step in moving to our new property. The Pastoral Council has set as a goal to have our parish offices and meeting rooms located on the site within a year. We are presently conducting an environmental study of the site and have been discussing with the DOT on what they will require of us for street improvements at this phase. The Archdiocese is discussing with the owners of the property on the south side the possibility of buying 5 more acres to allow us the ability of having two entrances onto Highway 92. Presently the DOT will allow us only one access off the highway. With more frontage of the street we would be allowed to have two access points. The costs of acquiring more land would be paid by the Archdiocese. At our last building committee meeting the question of starting a school came up once again. The Master Plan shows an eventual school on the site. The question that was raised at our meeting was on when to start a school. The committee feels strongly that a school would be a way of attracting more families to the parish. They also believe that it would bring in more revenue through grants, matching gifts and from those who are strong supporters in Catholic Education. A school could be developed over several years by bringing in portables and adding portables over the years as classrooms are added, going from preschool to eighth grade. Our neighboring pastors in Monroe and Marysville have also promised their support if we were to choose to begin a school. Is this something we would want to do as a second phase, possibly within four years? The question everyone is asking is, “When are we going to be worshipping on the site?” Our hope will be to move the old church and to have a new place to worship on the site by 2009 (within 4 years). The DOT will be requiring us to create turn lanes on the highway with this phase. With the increased number of people and cars, there will be needed considerable site improvements. This will be an ambitious undertaking. Please keep our Building Committee and our community in your prayers. Our meetings are always open. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 19th at 6:30 pm.
